One pedestrian is dead, another is in critical condition and a cyclist has been seriously injured after three separate crashes on a dark, rainy Thursday evening in Metro Vancouver.
The 54-year-old Langley man was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries. Police said the driver is extremely distraught and co-operating with investigators.
Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the collision. Police said there are no streetlights on the rural residential road and that it was a “particularly dark night given the light rain falling at the time.”
In Vancouver, police are investigating after a cyclist was hit by a vehicle at Clark Drive and Adanac Street around 6:30 p.m.
Police said a 60-year-old cyclist was riding through the intersection when he was struck by a small SUV.
The cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police said the driver remained at the scene and is co-operating with investigators.
Meanwhile, police in West Vancouver are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a pickup shortly before 6 p.m.
A 67-year-old West Vancouver man was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Police said the driver of the truck remained at the scene and is co-operating with investigators.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the collision, police said.
