Two RCMP officers shot in Alberta, suspect on the loose

Two RCMP members have significant injuries after being shot early Saturday morning in St. Albert.

RCMP are searching for the suspect in the area of the Sturgeon Valley Golf Course.

Offiers were investigating stolen automobile complaint in the parking lot of a Sturgeon County casino, said an RCMP spokesperson.

“One is in very grave condition. The other is in serious but stable condition,” he said.

Mayor of St. Albert, Nolan Crouse, said the shooting has come as a surprise to the community.

“This is a feeling of sadness,” Crouse said.

The suspect is described as a white male, 25-35 years old and wearing a two-toned blue striped jacket and jeans.

He is considered armed and dangerous and police are asking the public to avoid the area of the Sturgeon Valley Golf Course. If the suspect is spotted, the public is being asked to call 9-1-1 immediately and not approach him.

The names of the officers have not been released.
