Two face murder charges in Chinatown restaurant killing

Toronto Police have arrested and charged two men following a brazen shooting death at the Garden Restaurant at Dundas West last year.

Tariq Mohammed, 32, was murdered just before 4 a.m. at Garden Restaurant, at Dundas and Chestnut streets, near University Avenue. He was the city’s 50th homicide victim of the year.

Det.-Sgt. Gary Giroux said it’s believed the shooter got into a fight with Mohammed before opening fire with a semi-automatic pistol.

Mohammed was shot in the head at close range and died in the restaurant. Two women, who were at the table with him, were hit in the chest and abdomen, apparently by stray bullets.

Both women, in their 20s, were taken to St. Michael’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and one had surgery.

It’s believed the three victims were at Muzik Nightclub at Exhibition Place earlier in the evening, though Giroux said the two events don’t appear to be connected.

Marcus Gibson, 22, and Ceyon Carrington, 28, were arrested on Friday and face several other charges including robbery with a firearm and assault charges.
