A 47-year-old youth soccer coach from Surrey was arrested in Washington state Tuesday for allegedly pursuing a 12-year-old girl for sex, say U.S. officials.
Homeland Security officials say Kuldip “Kelly” Mahal responded to an ad on Vancouver craigslist.
He allegedly had sexually charged conversations with someone he thought was a 12-year-old girl, even sending her pictures.
It turns out, the girl was actually an undercover officer.
Homeland Security’s Andrew Munoz says their role is to investigate any crimes that cross the border.
“That includes child exploitation, so we work investigations with our partners in Canada and around the world, doing these types of investigations, putting up ads, to see who will respond to those ads.”
Mahal has a detention hearing next Monday, where a federal judge will determine whether he’ll remain in custody.
