Windsor police have made an arrest in the murder of a pregnant woman, laying several charges that hint at the brutality of the crime.
Police say they are continuing with the investigation into Cassandra Kaake’s death last December and are gathering additional information as a result of the arrest.
Police say Matthew Brush, 26, of LaSalle, Ont., is facing six charges, including first-degree murder, arson with disregard for human life, and indecent interference with a dead body.
An autopsy found Kaake — who was seven months pregnant — died from loss of blood caused by severe trauma to her body.
Police made an unusual request last month for friends, family, co-workers and neighbours of Kaake to voluntarily provide DNA samples.
A spokesman said last week that at least 500 people had come forward to supply a DNA sample.
