Newly-elected Liberal MPP Glenn Thibeault got a Sudbury-cold reception from opposition MPPs on his first appearance in the Ontario legislature.
Thibault won a controversial by-election in Sudbury just 12 days ago but the backroom manoeuvring that put Thibault in the race is now the subject of a police investigation by the OPP. They are looking into allegations that top liberals broke the law, to make Thibault their candidate.
It’s alleged that the liberals violated the elections act by enticing a candidate who already had the party nomination, to step aside. Andrew Olivier ran for the party in the last general election, and was defeated but the liberals came up with a star candidate for the by-election; and allegedly offered Olivier a job to step aside.
