Halifax flooding continues, rainfall warning ends (Video)

For the second Sunday in a row, heavy flooding in areas across the Halifax region created large pools of water and dangerous driving conditions as city crews worked to clear the catch basins before everything froze overnight.

City spokesman Darrin Natolino says crews have been clearing catch basins to allow for proper drainage before temperatures drop Sunday night.

Environment Canada’s rainfall warning for Halifax ended Sunday afternoon and temperatures are expected to drop as low as minus 19 overnight.

Natolino says the city will begin salting once temperatures are below freezing, but that salting is ineffective until the rain stops.

He says an overnight parking ban will allow crews to widen streets before the Monday morning commute.

Police in Halifax have urged motorists to be cautious of the changes in driving conditions.

Some of the hardest hit areas for flooding:

Highway 118 inbound from Highway 111
Queen Street in Halifax
Parkland Drive
Larry Uteck Boulevard
Bell Road
Highway 102
Glendale Avenue in Lower Sackville
