The dangers of the web, discussions on puberty and masturbation and sexually transmitted diseases are all part of the Liberal’s update to Ontario’s sex-education curriculum, set to be released Monday.
On Friday, trustees with the Toronto District School Board received emails advising them the ‘revised health and physical education curriculum, grades 1-12,’ would be released on Monday by the Ministry of Education.
The last time the Liberal government tried to update the sex-ed curriculum in 2010, protests by some religious and parent groups prompted the government to abandon the attempt.
This time, Premier Kathleen Wynne says the update will be place for the start of the fall school year.
The Education Minister stated this past week the government would not revise the curriculum after it is made public as parents were consulted in the update.
Opposition parties, however, charge that only a small percentage of parents were consulted, and the Progressive Conservatives have raised objections even before seeing details.
