The body of Sgt. Andrew Joseph Doiron will be arriving at CFB Trenton on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Department of National Defence in Ottawa.
He was killed during a friendly fire incident in Iraq while training Kurdish troops, last Friday. Three other soldiers were wounded.
Sgt. Doiron hailed from Moncton, New Brunswick and a longtime friend of his, Stephanie Learmouth, says he always wanted to serve Canada.
There will be a number of dignitaries on hand to pay their respects including National Defence Minister Jason Kenney, Governor General David Johnston, and Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Tom Lawson.
The Sergeant will be transported down the Highway of Heroes on Tuesday and OPP say the details of that will be made available at some point in the morning.
Three separate investigations are taking place into the death of Sgt. Doiron. There are varying accounts of the circumstances of his death, with Kurd commanders laying blame on the Canadians for the incident.
