William Flynn, The triggerman in the Pamela Smart murder trial was granted parole Thursday, nearly 25 years after he killed his school instructor’s husband and launched a global spectacle packed with lurid details of sex and manipulation.
In 1990, “Billy” Flynn, who was 16, killed Gregg Smart, husband of Pamela Smart. Prosecutors said she seduced him and manipulated him into committing the crime.
Pamela Smart was convicted of murder and sentenced to life without parole. Flynn testified against her and pleaded guilty to second degree murder.
Flynn served most of his sentence in Maine and is currently at the Bolduc Correctional Facility in Warren. It only took the Parole Board a few minutes to grant his parole. He got married while in prison and told the New Hampshire Parole Board members that he plans to stay in Maine with his wife. He spoke to the board by phone and said he will always feel terrible about killing Smart and parole won’t change that.
Flynn will be released from prison on June 4.
