Two motorists are facing dangerous driving charges related to an alleged street race last December that demolished a 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago.
Adam Shtay, 27, from Edmonton, and Joshua Dally, 31, from Surrey, has each been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while street racing.
Surrey RCMP Sgt. Dale Carr thanked the public for their help in the case involving a fiery Sunday, Dec. 22 crash.
“Luckily no one was seriously injured, however, the consequences of such a high speed collision on a major arterial roadway in our city could have been catastrophic,” Carr said.
The Lamborghini was racing a 2013 Dodge Viper on Dec. 22, 2014, at Highway 99 near 32 Avenue when a crash occurred.
Dash cam video shows the Lamborghini weaving in and out of traffic, losing control as it tries to pass another vehicle and hitting a fence.
The driver and 19-year-old female passenger, both from Edmonton, were standing nearby without injuries as Surrey Fire Services extinguished the burning luxury car.
Physical evidence, forensic collision reconstructionist reports, mechanical inspections, witness statements and dash cam video determined the vehicles were travelling up to 157 km/h.
