Liza Minnelli entered rehab at a Malibu facility for substance abuse, her representative said.
The 69-year-old, who is thought to have last entered a similar treatment centre a decade ago, has previously spoken publicly about her alcoholism.
A source close to the star told Mirror Celeb today: “Liza has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years and whenever she has needed to seek treatment she has done so.”
They added: “She is currently making excellent progress at an undisclosed facility.”
The four-times married star, who is the daughter of Judy Garland, has stated in the past that she always asked for help when things became difficult for her.
Speaking in 2008, Liza said: “My whole life, this disease has been rampant. I inherited it, and it has been horrendous, but I have always asked for help.”
In September, Liza underwent back surgery to help heal an injury that prevented her from performing most of the year or attending the funeral of Joan Rivers.
A statement released at the time read: “I am overwhelmed with the amount of love and caring that has been sent my way from all over the world.”
