The actor, who was born in San Diego in 1935, will be best remembered for his frequent collaborations with Clint Eastwood, appearing alongside the Hollywood legend in the likes of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, High Plains Drifter, Pink Cadillac and Any Which Way But Loose.
He also appeared in the Eastwood-directed Midnight In The Garden Of Good and Evil in 1997, while his other films included Tango and Cash, The Lawnmower Man and Maverick.
The actor also notched up several small screen appearances, most notably playing the gravedigger turned vampire in the 1979 miniseries Salem’s Lot, based on the Stephen King bestseller.
Lewis, like daughter Juliette, was also a Scientologist, and previously credited the movement as having benefitted his career.
‘The wins that I’ve had with Scientology coincide directly with the rise in my career,’ he was quoted as saying on the official Church of Scientology website in 2005.
‘I wish to acknowledge Ron’s (L Hubbard)’s brilliant work, benevolence and stick-to-it-ness. He never gave up and I am thankful and happy to be a recipient of that knowledge.’
Geoffrey is survived by his wife Paula Hochhalter as well as Juliette and nine other children.

May he RIP Geoffrey Lewis. Seriously, he has a name and to disregard his life to announce his passing with the headline, Eastwood co-star dies. You have no shame.
He was excellent in “Lust in the Dust’ as Hardcase Williams. Why isn’t this movie ever mentioned? Thanks Geoffrey and RIP
I agree, great Actor. I never realized that Juliette was his daughter either. I always thought that she was kinda hot (particularly when she played opposite Robert DeNiro in Cape Fear—–“saucy”). RIP SIR.
