Officials confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the bodies of a downed plane’s two pilots have been found by search crews.

The plane’s wreckage was found in a steep wooded area around 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday, RCMP said. The men’s bodies were inside the cockpit.

The pilots, whose names haven’t been released, were 33 and 35 and both from the Vancouver area, RCMP said. The Transportation Safety Board has taken over the investigation.

The Vancouver Airport Authority said air traffic control lost contact with Carson Air flight 66 Monday morning shortly after it took off at 6:43 a.m. from Vancouver International Airport bound for Prince George.

The aircraft was a twin-engine Metro II.

Wreckage found Monday afternoon in Vancouver’s North Shore Mountains came from the missing plane, the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre confirmed.

Carson Air has bases in Vancouver, Kelowna, B.C., Abbotsford, B.C., and Calgary.
