One person dead after Richmond Road apartment fire this morning

The body of a man was discovered in a Richmond Road apartment building damaged by fire early Wednesday morning, police say.

Crews were called to the building at 1330 Richmond Road just after 1 a.m. on Wednesday when smoke was spotted on the fifth floor.

When Ottawa Fire arrived they declared a working high rise fire.

They discovered smoke coming from one unit and forced their way in.

Once inside they discovered a man without vital signs, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Ottawa Police Arson Unit and the Ontario Fire Marshall.
