Joanne Carson, former wife of late Tonight Show host Johnny Carson, has passed away at Los Angeles home. She was 84.
She was married to the late night host for nine years up until 1972, when she purchased the California home she passed away in, LA Times reports. Johnny died in 2005.
Joanne had a close friendship with Truman Capote, who also died in her home in 1984 at the age of 59.
The Hollywood Reporter notes Johnny Carson married a total of four times and she married twice – going on to get remarried to Richard Rever, but that marriage resulted in divorce as well. She had no children.
Joanne told Larry King in 2007 about her first husband, “Johnny kind of said to me on our first date, ‘You love comedy so much, would you like to come up and see a show that I did?’ And I said, ‘Is this a new way of saying come up and see my etchings?'”
She also told King of their marriage, “I was living this ivory tower lifestyle that’s not really me.”
