The BC Coroners Service has dispatched an investigator from Prince George to Mackenzie after a man was found dead, possibly killed by a bear.
The incident occurred near the 10.5km mark of the Parsnip Forest Service Road near Mackenzie, according to the Ministry of Environment, which investigates cases involving wildlife and public safety.
A ministry spokesperson said the death was reported just after 10 a.m.
Someone found the body and called the police. The RCMP arrived and shot and killed one lone wolf and one male black bear that was approximately 300 pounds in weight.
Shortly after, the B.C. Conservation Office Service, which falls under the Ministry of Environment, arrived.
The Coroner has attended the site and examined the victim’s body, which has been removed to the morgue in Mackenzie.
The Conservation Office Service and the RCMP are investigating. A post-mortem examination will be conducted on the bear, according to the Ministry.
