Gypsy Blancharde charged with ‘stabbing mother to death’ faked disability.
Greene County prosecuting attorney said Tuesday morning that Gypsy Blancharde, 23 (not 19 as previously reported), and her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, 26, of Big Bend, Wisconsin. are charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action for the stabbing death of Dee Dee Blancharde, Gypsy’s mother.
Officers found Gypsy Blancharde of Springfield, Missouri, and her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn of Big Bend, Monday morning.
Deputies in Greene County, Missouri, contacted the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office after Blancharde’s mother, 48-year-old Clauddinnea “Dee Dee” Blancharde, was found dead over the weekend in the family’s home.
Authorities believed that Gypsy Blancharde might have been traveling with Godejohn after the killing. The pair was found at Godejohn’s Big Bend home.
Court documents say Dee Dee Blancharde was fatally stabbed by Godejohn at the direction of her daughter.
Investigators found a pair of Facebook posts on Dee Dee Blancharde’s Facebook account on June 14 sent from the Big Bend area. Deputies in Missouri contacted the Waukesha County Sheriffs Office, and Gypsy Blancharde and Godejohn were brought in for questioning.
According to court documents, Godejohn told officers that he went to Springfield to see Gypsy Blancharde. He told deputies that he asked Gypsy Blancharde if she wanted him to kill her mother, and she said yes.

Godejohn said he stabbed Blancharde several times while she was lying on her bed. He told investigators that Gypsy Blancharde gave him the knife. He said he mailed the knife to his home so he “would not get caught with it.”
He also told deputies that the pair took several thousand dollars from a family safe.
Investigators questioned Gypsy Blancharde, who said she knew that her boyfriend was going to stab her mother, but she did nothing to stop it, according to court documents. She also admitted to posting the comments on her mother’s Facebook account.
Neighbors said that Gypsy Blancharde was 19-years-old, suffered from muscular dystrophy and used a wheelchair. Police in Greene County said Tuesday that Gypsy Blancharde admitted to lying about her age and about physical handicaps in order to gain money and trips.
“Use caution in donating money to this family at this time as we have unearthed the appearance of a long financial fraud scheme,” Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott said.
One the groups possibly fooled was Habitat for Humanity. The house Dee Dee Blancharde was killed in was bought from the organization.
“The entire Habitat for Humanity family is just really saddened by the turn of events,” Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Larry Peterson said.
The organization on Tuesday was going back through its records. The Blanchardes applied for the home in 2006, and at that time they met all the requirements.
“It’s not something we deal with every day,” Peterson said. “We don’t know what’s going to happen with this home.”
Police said they are reviewing surveillance video from businesses in the Missouri area that shows Godejohn and Gypsy Blancharde walking around after the homicide, wearing disguises before catching a bus to Wisconsin.
One of Gypsy Gypsy Blancharde’s cousins talked toWISN 12 News reporter Terry Sater by phone Tuesday night from Louisiana saying this was a ticking time bomb – a mother using her daughter as a girl suffering with cancer to trick people out of their money:
“She basically brainwashed the poor child,” Bobby Pitre said.
Pitre said several family members questioned for a long time whether Gypsy Blancharde really had leukemia or whether her mother had staged it all to get money. The mother forced her daughter to sit in a wheelchair.
“I was old enough to know that this woman was freaking crazy. Gypsy would be pushing other kids around in her wheelchair. It was a fragile mind to start with. She was young. She was impressionable. The mom started doing all this stuff to her,” Pitre said.
Gypsy Blancharde and Godejohn are charged with felony murder in Missouri and could face the death penalty.
An extradition hearing will be held at the end of the month.
