Space company Urthecast brings Earth into sharper focus with state-of-the-art cameras mounted aboard the International Space Station.
From space, the Earth must look like a very peaceful place, far from the hustle of streets and way above the drone of airplanes circumnavigating the globe. But even from that far away a closer look can reveal incredible detail.
UrtheCast aims to give you that kind of closer look and it’s pretty incredible. This is a video of London taken from the International Space Station. The ISS is 400 kilometers from the surface of the Earth and they’ve managed to capture the first ever HD colour video from space.
This might look like just a Google map segment but watch the video to see it come to life.
UrtheCast is still in its early stages but hopes to bring this kind of detail to people all over the world, giving them a more accurate look at the world around them, and helping out with navigating around traffic jams and other issues which will look very small while far away.
They’re hoping to be fully up and running by the end of Summer 2015 with the high resolution Irish camera so expect apps and websites to start working with this kind of extraordinary data soon.
