Shakira and America Ferrera are the latest celebrities who speak out against Donald Trump’s recent “hateful and racist” comment about Mexican immigrants.
In an interview with CNN, anchor Don Lemon asked Trump about his previous comments that Mexican immigrants were criminals and rapists, to which Trump saw the error of his ways and gave a heartfelt apology for the terrible generalization. Just kidding, he actually incorrectly cited an article he read on the internet and then said it again.
“Well if you look at the statistics of people coming, you look at the statistics on rape, on crime, on everything coming in illegally into this country, it’s mind-boggling!”
He cited an article on Fusion which is actually about the dangers women face when crossing the border. Don Lemon pointed that out, but Trump decided to stick with his statement.
“Well, somebody’s doing the raping, Don! I mean, somebody’s doing it! Who’s doing the raping?”
Trump then waited for the apologies and support to come streaming it. Unfortunately for him, people generally don’t like it when you accuse groups of horrific violent crimes without evidence.
This is a hateful and racist speech that attempts to divide a country that for years has promoted diversity and democracy! 1/2

Columbian singer Shakira tweeted out (both in English and Spanish) that Trump’s hateful speech was trying to divide the country. “Ugly Betty” actress America Ferrera penned an open letter to Trump saying “Remarks like yours will serve brilliantly to energize Latino voters and increase turnout on election day against you and any other candidate who runs on a platform of hateful rhetoric… Thank you for reminding us that there remains an antiquated and endangered species of bigots in this country that we must continue to combat.”
