A female in her mid-20s was killed when she was hit by a train in Cochrane while walking on railroad tracks Thursday evening, EMS confirmed.
Just before 6 p.m. Thursday an eastbound train traveling near River Avenue in Cochrane struck the woman.
Cochrane fire and EMS were dispatched and declared the young woman deceased on scene.
The train sounded the horn to get the young woman’s attention and when that didn’t work they put the emergency brakes on, but it was too late.
Cochrane RCMP says she was walking alone on the tracks when the collision occurred.
Canadian Pacific police says “Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends at this time.”
An investigation is underway with the Canadian Pacific Police and Cochrane RCMP.
The accident forced the closure of all railway crossings in Cochrane to close for nearly two hours, virtually shutting down the town’s traffic.
The identity of the young woman is not being released at this time.
