A Calgary Transit bus will be featured for the first time in the Calgary Pride Parade next month.
Calgary Transit teamed up with Calgary Pride and Pattison Outdoor to make the city’s first Pride bus. It rolls out on Friday morning and will circle the city on a number of routes for the 25th annual Pride Week, running from Aug. 28 to Sept. 7.
“It’s really exciting,” said Craig Sklenar, director of government affairs with Calgary Pride. “It’s the first time ever that Calgary Transit has provided such a large platform for us, to not only advertise the event, but show how inclusive the city is.”
Routes for the Pride bus will be posted on social media daily and, on Sept. 6, the bus will join in the 2015 Calgary Pride Parade down 9 Avenue, where they’re expecting to see 60,000 people.
Doug Morgan, director of Calgary Transit, said the Pride bus is “in recognition of the hundreds of millions of people we carry.”
“We’re celebrating the diversity that is Calgary,” he said. “Also the diversity of our customers, of our staff and just how Calgary’s changing, and we want to be a part of that change.”
