Police reported an active shooter near MIT’s Cambridge campus late Sunday afternoon.
A woman in her mid-20s was shot in the leg on Portland Street, off Main Street, according to Cambridge police spokesman Jeremy Warnick. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is being treated at a local hospital, he said.

Warnick said it is unclear if the victim is affiliated with MIT, adding that the carnival drew many people into the city Sunday who are not MIT students.
MIT police reported earlier in a tweet that an active shooter was on campus, before retracting the tweet minutes later. University officials posted an update to its emergency alert saying the shooter was not believed to be on campus.
University and police officials asked people to stay away from the scene of the shooting.
