Lady Gaga is addressing campus rape in a raw new music video for “Til It Happens to You,” a song from the documentary “The Hunting Ground,” which examines the issue of sexual assault among college students.
The video shows harrowing scenes of women being attacked, including two girls being drugged and assaulted at a college party.
Lady Gaga dedicated it to victims of sexual assault all over the world.
And she tweeted: “We hope u feel our love&solidarity through the song & perhaps find some peace in knowing u r not alone through this film #TilItHappensToYou.”
Earlier this year the star wrote an open letter, alongside New York governor Andrew Cuomo, to address the “epidemic of sexual violence” on campuses.
Last year the 29-year-old told radio host Howard Stern she was sexually assaulted by a producer 20 years older than her when she was 19.
Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the first Twilight film, made the video and the song was co-written with Canadian songwriter Diane Warren.
The track originally featured in a documentary about campus rape released earlier this year called The Hunting Ground.
The video ends by saying: “One in five college women will be sexually assaulted this year unless something changes.”
Lady Gaga tweeted that a portion of proceeds from sales of the song will be donated to organisations which support victims.
