Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco’s normally tight-lipped quarterback, blasted Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman in an interview with the New York Post on Thursday.
Kaepernick called Sherman’s postgame interview with Erin Andrews after the NFC Championship Game “ridiculous.” He said he’s rooting for the Broncos and also said that he doesn’t regret throwing to wide receiver Michael Crabtree in the end zone. Sherman, of course, tipped that pass that led to the game-winning interception.
“I do wish I had thrown a better ball,” he said on the Mike and Mike program. “If I throw it a foot further, we’re playing this week and not Seattle.
“We’ve got a one-on-one matchup, and I’ll take Crabtree on Sherman every day of the week.”
Kaepernick was asked about Sherman’s showboating and his postgame rant, and the 49ers quarterback wasn’t impressed with the way the former Stanford star conducted himself.
“To me it was ridiculous,” Kaepernick said on ESPN. “But if that’s what you need to do to feel like you’re the better player… if you have to tell everyone you’re the best corner in the league, go ahead and tell them.
“Crabtree will step on the field every time, and he’ll go for 100 (yards) half the time. People forget we went for 100 yards on Sherman the year before. But if that’s something he needs to do, go right ahead. We’re going to come out and play football against you next year.”
Kaepernick called the rivalry with the Seahawks “a great rivalry for the NFL” and said he has a lot of friends on the Seattle team. “I wish them good luck in the Super Bowl this week,” he said.
Asked by Mike and Mike if he would be rooting for the Seahawks, Kaepernick emphatically replied, “Not a chance! Not a chance.”
He added that he did not intend to watch the game.
“It’s just too close to home for me,” Kaepernick said.
