Man Fired for Making Racist Jokes About His Coworker’s 3-Year-Old Son “Cayden”.
The Root reports that last month, Polaris Marketing Group employee Gerod Roth, who goes by Geris Hilton online, uploaded a photo with Cayden, his Black co-worker’s 3-year-old son. Soon after he uploaded the photo to social media, it was flooded with racist comments from his friends.
“I didn’t know you were a slave owner,” wrote one woman. Another man wrote “But Massah I dindu muffin,” and someone else commented “Send him back dude those f—ers are expensive. Like 25 cents a day.” Roth joined in on the comments, writing “He was feral.”
Naturally, the comments sparked a rapid backlash. Roth was fired from his job—though the company claims that his termination was for other reasons—and other commenters have lost their jobs as well, including the woman who referred to Cayden as a slave.
Cayden’s mother, Sydney Jace, wrote a follow-up post, thanking the social media world for its outpouring of support and sharing a collage of photos so the public could see the real Cayden.
“When people hear about him, these are the pictures I want them to know about,” she wrote, “not that disturbing image and its comments. We are above all of this nonsense that has been going on… #HisNameIsCayden”
