Two people have been treated by paramedicsand a international mail centre in Sydney’s west has been evacuated after a small amount of a corrosive solvent was spilt in a mail-sorting area.
Staff have been assessed by paramedics but there are no serious injuries.
Hazmat officials have spread sand on the floor to soak up the liquid and 20 firefighters are at the scene.
Ian Krimmer from Fire and Rescue says the incident has affected some of the centre’s staff.
“In one of the mail sorting areas there’s been a package which is leaking a liquid,” he said.
“150 workers have been evacuated from the area, seven of the staff have been assessed by the ambulance, two have been treated for minor effects of the spillage, but once again we have yet to fully determine what the substance is.”
