Dick Maugg: ‘Bartles & Jaymes’ Actor Dead at 83

Dick Maugg, who played the always silent cohort Ed Jaymes in the 1980s Bartles & Jaymes wine cooler ads is dead at 83.

Dick Maugg died almost three months ago, on July 28 following a battle with cancer. His family kept his passing private as Maugg’s daughter was also battling cancer and she died earlier this month.

Dick Maugg was best known for his role as silent sidekick Ed Jaymes to Frank Bartles in a series of industry-acclaimed advertisements known for their homey style.

Outside of his brief stint in acting, he spent his career as a building contractor and developer, living with his wife in Santa Rosa.

Dick Maugg leaves his wife, three surviving daughters and several grandchildren.
