You may see people wearing red ribbons as we head toward the holiday season. MADD Canada is handing out millions of them as part of Project Red Ribbon.
The campaign runs from November 1 to January 4, and is a symbol of the wearer’s commitment to sober driving. Its also a tribute to the thousands of Canadians who are killed and injured in impairment-related crashes each year.
Police and other emergency responders are involved with the campaign, and several Checker Cabs have been decked out with a special decals stressing a $15 cab ride is better than a $15,000 fine.
Traffic Unit Inspector Ken Thrower says they will be throwing the usual resources onto the streets as we head into the holiday season.
As opposed to one CheckStop bus, police will have two smaller units on the street, and Thrower says they could be together or separate.
He says they will also be utilizing unmarked cars paying special attention to impaired drivers.
Thrower is also adament that motorists who see drunk drivers should call police, “even though no one in your car is drinking and driving, you should be upset by this.”
