Two Louisiana cops were arrested and charged for fatally shooting a six-year-old.
The officers were also arrested, following a Louisiana State Police (LSP) review of body camera footage that captured the fatal encounter.
Col. Mike Edmonson announced that Officer Derrick Stafford, who works for the Marksville Police Department, and Officer Norris Greenhouse, who works as a Alexandria City Marshal, will be charged with murder and attempted murder after Jeremy Mardis, 6, was shot and killed at the end of a police chase. Mardis’ father Christopher Few, led officers on a chase. Few was wounded in the incident and is hospitalized in critical condition.
Few was shot in the head and was transported to Alexandria’s Rapides Regional Medical Center for treatment. Jeremy died at the scene after being hit multiple times in the head and chest, according to Avoyelles Parish Coroner Dr. L.J. Mayeux.
“Jeremy didn’t deserve to die like this,” said Edmonson. He described the body camera footage from the scene: “It is the most disturbing thing I’ve seen, and I’ll leave it at that.”
Jeremy was sitting in the front seat of that vehicle, and that’s how he died, Edmonson said.
The Marksville police chief asked state police to investigate the shooting.
Jeremy was a first-grader at Lafargue Elementary School, which is on La. Highway 107 in Effie.
