The blizzard warning that was in effect for Denver Monday night and Tuesday morning was a pretty rare event. It’s the first blizzard warning to be issued for Denver in more than five years.
If a Blizzard Warning for the city of Denver seems out of place to you, you’re not alone. In fact, until this week, the Mile High City had only had one other Blizzard Warning in at least the last eight years!
Denver’s last Blizzard Warning was March 26, 2009.
The National Weather Service in Boulder pulled data from October, 2007 until today, and that 2009 warning was the only other of its kind for Denver.
Blizzard Warnings in other areas were much more common. Along the Palmer Divide there have been 15 Blizzard Warnings since 2007.
