The SQ has confirmed human remains found Friday afternoon near a highway in Trois-Rivieres belong to Cédrika Provencher, who has been missing since 2007.
Cédrika Provencher was reported missing on the 31st of July 2007, and was last seen alive near the intersection of Chapais street and Boulevard Des Chenaux in Trois Rivières. She was nine years old at the time.
The SQ was first alerted to the discovery on Friday, December 11th, towards the end of the day.
The investigation is still open and on-going. In their official press release, the SQ made it a point to mention the massive volunteer search effort that attempted to find the youth eight years ago. The remains discovered are said to be mostly bones, indicating they had been in the location for some time.
So far, the SQ is not providing additional commentary, nor advancing any hypothesis as to how the remains came to be in the location they were found.
The public is invited to provide any information related to this case by calling 1-800-659-4264.
