Get the new Night Light mode in Google Play Books, Report

The blue light that emanates from your phone’s screen is known to disrupt your sleep. So it’s good news that Google has added a light filter to its Play Books app, which gradually tapers the amount of blue light used by your display as you inch closer to bedtime. Now all apps need it.

Similar to the updated Kindle tablet software we saw last week, Google Play Books does this by gradually filtering the amount of blue light displayed by the app depending on how late it is. Your book’s pages are instead displayed in a warm amber color.

Google calls this new feature Night Light. “Night Light automatically adapts to the amount of natural sunlight outside based on the time of day, giving you just the right temperature and brightness,” the company wrote in a blog post. “The color adjustment is more comfortable on your eyes and greatly improves low-light night reading.

It’s available now on Android and iOS, where you can download Google Play Books from the App Store if you’re not already invested in Kindle or Apple’s own iBooks.
