Two London clinics will perform the province’s new government-funded fertility treatments, the health ministry announced Monday.
The London Health Sciences Centre’s fertility clinic at Victoria Hospital and Southwestern Ontario Fertility Technologies on Southdale Road East will both be receiving funding.
The province announced the locations on Monday, nearly three months after first announcing plans to expand funding.
At the beginning of October, the Ontario Liberals announced the province will spend $50 million a year expanding coverage of in vitro fertilization to help would-be parents grow their families.
Health Minister Eric Hoskins says anyone with fertility problems, “including non-medical factors” such as same-sex couples and single people, will be able to access one round of IVF.
The province will fund one IVF cycle per patient in their lifetime, which includes egg retrieval and surgical sperm retrieval if necessary.
The government is working with the College of Physicians and Surgeons Ontario on the project, which is expected to help more than 5,000 Ontarians.
