A 12-year-old girl was shot and killed by a Pennsylvania state constable during an apartment eviction on Monday, January 11th, WPMT is reporting.
Constable Clarke Steele, 46, arrived at the home along Rebecca Drive in Penn Township shortly after 10 a.m. to serve an eviction order. Donald Meyer, 47, of Duncannon, answered the door and after a brief conversation he pulled out a rifle and pointed at Constable Steele’s chest, according to state police.
Constable Steele pulled out his service weapon and shot Meyer in his upper left arm. The bullet went through Meyer’s arm and hit his 12-year-old daughter, who was standing directly behind her father, investigators said.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. Meyer’s was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities recovered the loaded rifle at the scene.
Meyer’s is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.
The Perry County District Attorney’s office is assisting in the investigation, which is ongoing.
