The Squamish Valley Music Festival, which has featured headliners such as Drake, Bruno Mars, Mumford & Sons and Sam Smith since it first launched in 2010, has been abruptly cancelled this year.
Organizers behind the outdoor festival revealed the bad news today (March 2) on the festival’s website, explaining that while they had been set to bring bands up to Squamish this August, they’ve been forced to cancel the event altogether. The exact reasoning behind the cancellation was not given, but they apologized to music fans and the community of Squamish for not being able to make it work this year.
“We have made the extremely difficult decision to not proceed with the 2016 festival, due to take place in August,” the statement reads. “This decision was not made lightly and we sincerely apologize to all the people this decision affects: the fans, artists, industry partners, corporate partners, suppliers and all of our supporters within the community of Squamish.”
It’s unclear at present if organizers are looking at bringing back the Squamish Valley Music Festival in the future. While the official website is still up and running, the festival’s Facebook page, Twitter account and Instagram profile have all been taken down.
Originally started in 2010 as the LIVE at Squamish festival, the event officially changed its name to the Squamish Valley Music Festival in 2013. Past performers include Drake, A$AP Rocky, Sam Smith, Arcade Fire, Alabama Shakes, the Tragically Hip, Weezer, Devo, City & Colour, Queens of the Stone Age, Eminem, Bruno Mars, Metric, Mother Mother, Danny Brown, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Vampire Weekend and many more.
