Miami Beach detectives have released a person of interest who was questioned in a fatal shooting Sunday morning along Ocean Drive.
Miami Beach police said the man was shot in the chest shortly after midnight Sunday on Ocean Drive and later died at the hospital. No other details were released and the victim was not identified. Another shooting happened less than 20 minutes later a few blocks away, but it doesn’t appear anyone was hit.
Police said they recovered four shell casings and were working viable leads.
The shootings come amid Miami’s sometimes rowdy Spring Break. Police shut down a portion of Ocean Drive for more than an hour because of unruly spring break revelers Friday night after a crowd migrated off the beach and onto the road, resulting in small fights. Police said some threw objects at passing cars.
Police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez says a few people were arrested, but no one was seriously hurt. It is unclear how many people were taken into custody or what charges they are facing.
Rodriguez says back-up units that had arrived to deal with the crowds were able to be called off within a few hours.
