Visitors to the Knudson Cove Marina in Alaska were treated to an up-close-and-personal encounter with a massive humpback whale on Monday.
Candace Barnes was visiting from out-of-town and happened to walk down to the Knudson Cove Marina when a humpback whale surfaced out of the water near the docks. According to other passersby, the whales have been making appearances in the marina for the past three days.
Barnes, who was not associated with the fishing crews, said it was the most amazing thing she had seen in person and it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“We were just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time!!” Barnes wrote.
Tuesday, another fishing crew spotted the whale from a different angle.
Lead captain Cy Williams of Strike Zone Sportfishing was getting ready for a fishing charter when he saw a whale pop out of the harbor for a feeding.
