A dog tested positive for meth and heroin after its owner was arrested on drugs charges.
The terrier mix was found Thursday in a Tustin motel high on heroin and methamphetamines.
Bubba’s owner, 40-year-old Joshua West, was in the motel room with his dog when police found used needles and drugs.
They arrested West for an outstanding warrant, a parole violation and possession of drug paraphernalia, heroin and meth.
Tustin police Lt. Robert Wright said the situation with the dog strikes him as pretty horrible.
“This is the first time we’ve ever heard of someone reporting that an animal has been under the influence,” he said.
Animal control officers called to the scene immediately noticed Bubba was lethargic.
Tests revealed he had meth and heroin in his system.
It’s unclear whether he ingested the drugs or breathed in second-hand smoke.
Bubba is detoxing at an Orange County animal clinic.
After he recovers, officials say he will be put up for adoption.
