Second woman attacked by bear near Canmore

Just one day after a woman was mauled by a grizzly bear near Cochrane, another woman said to be in her mid 20s was attacked by a brown bear in Canmore.

EMS rushed to the scene at 7:30 p.m., and the woman is now at the Canmore General Hospital in stable condition. Paramedics say she was calm and conversing with them during the ride to the hospital.

According to her account to EMS, she was biking with a friend when they came across a brown bear.

When they attempted to ride away, the bear struck the young woman before it was scared away by the friend with bear spray.

Park officials said Wednesday an investigation found the bear was acting defensively and it won’t be put down.
