The voice behind the last radio communications received by Malaysian air traffic controllers from flight MH370 before it went missing on March 8 was that of the aircraft’s co-pilot First Officer Fariq Abdul Hamid.
Malaysia Airlines CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said today preliminary findings after examining recordings of the flight communications showed that the last message “Alright, good night” was relayed by Fariq.
Ahmad Jauhari reiterated that the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System’s (ACARS) last received transmission was at last 1.07am.
“However, we do not know if the ACARS was switched off after that,” he said adding that the airline was considering to strengthen the psychological, psychometric and psychomotor test routine for pilots as well as to tighten criteria for new intake.
“Going forward, we are in code tango, that is an internal code which is a heighten security code and we look at all possible leads or shortcomings,” said Ahmad Jauhari.
He also ruled out speculation that Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah was switched to pilot MH370 on March 8 at the 11th hour.
“The pilot is in the roster (for the said MH370 flight) as scheduled,” he said.
To a question on cargo, Ahmad Jauhari said apart from luggage, the airline also carried three to four tonnes of mangosteen.
He also said there was no evidence that the MH370 passengers made phone calls or text messages after the jetliner disappeared.
“We are still checking. There is a million records that we have to process. It is still being done as part of the investigation,” said Ahmad Jauhari.
