Amy Robach Replacing Elliott on ‘Good Morning America’

“Good Morning America” personality Josh Elliott is leaving ABC to join NBC Sports, and he was quickly replaced on the morning show by Amy Robach, the network said.

ABC News President Ben Sherwood said Elliott told them he was leaving on Sunday.

Elliott, 42, had been in contract discussions with ABC for months. “We worked hard to close a significant gap between our generous offer and his expectations. In the end, Josh felt he deserved a different deal and so he chose a new path,” Sherwood writes in the e-mail.

Citing sources close to the story, The Hollywood Reporter says Elliott will “have a robust role on all of NBC Sports’ signature franchises including the network’s coverage of the Triple Crown, the Olympics and Sunday Night Football.”
Elliott jumped from ESPN to GMA May 2011.

Robach, 41, has been with ABC News since 2012. She filled in for GMA host Robin Roberts during her recovery from a bone marrow transplant for myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). In November 2013, Robach revealed that she is battling breast cancer.

Elliott is the second high-profile departure from Good Morning America in the past few months. In December, meteorologist Sam Champion left for The Weather Channel, where he hosts a new morning show, AMHQ With Sam Champion.
