Nathan Trapuzzano, a 24-year-old computer programmer, was married less than a year ago and expecting a baby with his wife, Jennifer, but he was gunned down for no apparent reason early Tuesday on the Westside.
Indianapolis police concentrated forces on the neighborhood, merging the southwest and northwest districts and urging the public to scrutinize a security video that shows the two attackers.
On Friday, friends and family erected a tribute to Nathan Trapuzzano on the 3500 block of West 16th Street, where he was fatally shot this week while on his regular, pre-dawn walk.
A cross with a photo of Trapuzzano now stands near the spot where his body was found Tuesday. A candle illuminates the memorial – a symbol of his family’s wish to shed light on the life that was lost.
“[The memorial is] so no one forgets Nathan,” said Brandy Clements, the cousin of Trapuzzano’s wife Jennifer. “He was a great guy. We want his memory to live on. We want the community to enjoy his life and we don’t ever want to ever forget.”
Jennifer and Nathan, who had been married less than a year, were expecting their first child.
“The pain is unfathomable, and these next two days will be the hardest I’ve ever had to face,” Jennifer wrote on her Facebook Friday morning. “My heart is so broken.”
For Jennifer’s aunt, one thing stands out to be done.
“We need to get the thugs who took his life,” said Dawne Mann. “We need them off the streets to make other people safe.”
IMPD has asked for the public’s help in apprehending those responsible.
