A baseball fan is being treated for serious injuries after she fell down an elevator shaft at Fenway Park Friday night.
It followed the Tigers victory over the Red Sox.
They aren’t sure why the doors opened on the elevator shaft. She fell from the fourth floor, landing on the roof of the elevator which was stopped at the second floor.
The victim was reportedly found unconscious on top of the elevator on the second floor at Gate B. Firefighters responded to a call at 11:17 p.m. and a tech rescue team shut power off to the elevator.
Authorities said firefighters used a chair to boost themselves up through a hatch to reach the victim on the roof. The woman was immobilized and lowered her through the hatch.
Authorities said the victim was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. A Beth Israel spokesman declined to comment about the woman’s condition today.
It’s unclear whether one or both of the elevator doors opened before the woman fell. A state elevator inspector was called to the scene and the incident remains under investigation.
