Two pre-teens are accused of trying to poison their teacher.
The NYPD says a nine-year-old and a 12-year-old were arrested Tuesday in connection with the incident at a Brooklyn school.
The children are accused of putting something poisonous, possibly rat poison, into their teacher’s water bottle.
The teacher became nauseous and went to the doctor. She is now OK, according to police.
A third student, who was not part of the poisoning, either saw or overheard the boys talking about their plot. That student went home and told their mother, who reported it to the school.
It was then that rat poison pellets were found in one the boy’s backpacks by a school official, who then alerted authorities.
The young boys face charges of attempted assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon, NYPD said.
The school issued the following statement Wednesday:
“We are greatly relieved that the teacher is recovering and we continue to closely monitor this situation. Ensuring the safety of our entire schools community is our priority, and while this matter is still under investigation, we will take swift and appropriate action.”
