A one-year-old boy and a man in his 40s were killed after their car collided with a Quebec City-bound Via Rail passenger train east of Montreal this morning, Quebec provincial police say.
A spokesperson from Via Rail said Train #20 was heading from Montreal to Quebec, and said when high-speed trains are involved the chances of survival are slim to none.
The train continued its trip to Quebec City and Drummondville at 10:45 a.m. once replacement engineers arrived to drive the train the rest of its trip.
Transportation safety officials rushed to the scene and were spotted testing the barriers to see if they were being lowered correctly.
