Girl, Grabbed in Attempted Winnipeg Abduction, Police

Winnipeg police are looking for a man after the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl in Crestview.

The incident happened Wednesday at around 4 p.m. while the victim was walking in the area of Lumsden Avenue and Kay Crescent.

Police say the man grabbed the girl by the arm and said, “Let’s go to Hedges” (a nearby junior high school). The girl was able to break free and contact police.

The suspect is described as white with tanned skin, about six feet tall, between 25 and 30 years old, and clean-shaven with a skinny build. He had black hair and scars on both hands. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 204-986-2877 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

On Thursday, the Canadian Centre for Child Protection released a “safety sheet” detailing what to tell children of different ages about stranger danger, and what to do if you see an abduction in progress.
