California’s first public-accessible Dunkin’ Donuts opened at Barstow Station on Monday.
The coffee-and-donut chain has been popular on the East Coast for decades and is about to make a major run at the California consumer. Since January, the company has made 70 franchise agreements to open free-standing restaurants starting in 2015.
A Dunkin’ Donuts spokesperson could not confirm exact locations for the stores on Monday, but a news release states that franchises are planned for the counties of San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, Ventura and Orange.
A Dunkin’ Donuts has been open at Camp Pendleton since last year, but that store is only open to people with access to the military base.
In January, Dunkin’ Donuts announced plans to enter Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino, Ventura and Orange counties and has since executed franchise agreements to develop more than 70 new freestanding restaurants in these markets, which will begin opening in 2015. A franchise agreement with Embassy Suites San Diego has also been signed, and the restaurant is planned to open in the first quarter of 2014. Last month, the company opened California’s Central Valley and the Central Coast, including Fresno, Bakersfield, Sacramento and Santa Barbara for franchise development, and is recruiting qualified multi-unit operators to open traditional and a wide range of non-traditional venues. Opportunities are also still available in Southern California.
“As we develop California, we continue to look for qualified, multi-unit franchise candidates with foodservice, operations and real estate experience who want to become part of a nationally established restaurant concept with more than 60 years of franchising experience and 95 percent brand recognition,” said Grant Benson, vice president of global franchising and business development, Dunkin’ Brands. “Over time, Dunkin’ Donuts plans to have as many as 1,000 traditional and non-traditional restaurants throughout the state. We look forward to making our famous beverages, baked goods and sandwiches available to an ever-growing base of customers.”
