Man charged in fatal Uranium City fire, Report

A Stony Rapids man faces manslaughter charges following a four-year RCMP investigation into a deadly mobile home fire in Uranium city.

Michael La Rocque, 29, faces two counts of manslaughter that stem from the 2010 fire.

The remains of Jack Cochrane and Phillip Nighttraveller were found in a burned out mobile home on Jan. 4, 2010.

“Early on in the investigation, there were persons of interest identified and we just continued to follow up on that and were able to secure enough evidence to support the charges,” said RCMP Cpl. Doug Nordick.

LaRocque is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Prince Albert on Monday.

The investigation is ongoing.

Uranium City is approximately 840 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
