Mounties are seeking witnesses to a tragic crash that claimed the life of an eight-year-old boy in Hope Wednesday afternoon.
According to RCMP, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. After receiving a report of a child that was hit by the truck, general duty officers and BC Ambulance were quickly dispatched.
Once arriving on scene, responders found an eight-year-old boy suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
RCMP investigators supported by Fraser Valley Traffic Services, Lower Mainland District Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, BC Coroners Service, and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement are examining the collision scene and gathering evidence in the initial stages of the investigation.
The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with investigators and victim services is currently engaged with the family of the victim.
Sixth Avenue between Coquihalla and Queen Streets will be closed to traffic until further notice.
